Tadasana

In order to do this asana, stand with your feet together and knees straight. Inhale and lift both arms and interlock the fingers above the head, fully elongating the spine. Stretch the shoulders, your palms facing upwards. Also engage the lower body actively. Continue breathing slowly, hold for 30 seconds, repeat 5 times.

Benefits: This yoga asana stretches the entire body without putting pressure on the joints. It builds strength in the lower body, improving balance and alignment.

Dandasana

Do this asana by sitting with the spine straight, legs stretched forward, and palms next to the thighs. Tighten the legs, mainly the calf and thigh muscles. Pull your toes inwards, actively opening the chest and shoulders. Breathe slowly, hold for 30 seconds, repeat 5 times.

Note: It can also be practised with arms lifted in line with the shoulders, for deeper impact.

Benefits: This asana helps in alignment, strengthens back muscles, improves posture, builds awareness and actively engages the core in a seated position, the expert says.

Anulom-Vilom Pranayama

To do this asana, sit in a comfortable posture with the spine straight. Place the left hand on the left knee, with the right hand blocking the right nostril. Inhale from the left nostril, then block the left nostril and exhale from the right. Now inhale from the right nostril while the left is still blocked, then block the right and exhale from the left. This completes one cycle. Practise 5-10 cycles, breathing as slowly as possible.

Benefits: This yoga breathwork balances both sides of the brain, sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system, immediately relaxing the mind and regulating energy flow in the whole body.

Brahmari Pranayama

Sit in a comfortable posture, with the spine straight. Gently close both ears using the thumbs; index fingers lightly over the eyebrows; middle fingers at the nape of the nose; ring fingers at the base of the nostrils, and little fingers over the upper lips. Take in a deep breath; while exhaling, make the humming sound. Try to focus on the vibrations created by the sound inside the body. Allow the vibrations to transcend throughout the body. Practise for 5-11 minutes daily.

Note: This can be done before bedtime in a lying-down position, without the hand gesture, to help relieve stress.

Healing Walk

Raise both arms towards the sky and lengthen the spine. Walk at a medium pace, preferably in natural surroundings. For deeper impact, walk barefoot on grass. Practise daily for 11-21 minutes for a powerful impact.
