Shilpa Shetty yoga: When it comes to beating stress, experts often recommend practising yoga asanas that can calm the mind and relax the body. Stress is considered to be the number one cause of most health problems, especially those seen in the winter months -- like weight gain, bone and muscle aches, sleep problems, skin and hair issues, etc. Inactivity in winters takes a toll on a person's physical and mental well-being, which is why it is imperative to kick lethargy and get physically active. If you are looking for some inspiration and wondering where to begin, Shilpa Shetty has the perfect solution for you: a free-flowing and relaxing yoga routine. Take a look here.
The actor took to Instagram to share a video, in which she demonstrated the 'spinal wave flow' which, she wrote, is a "technique designed to release blockages in the spine and trigger a spinal wave". Many people tend to hold their stress and tension in the spine, which can impact their posture and also cause back pain. With this yoga flow exercise, they can tackle this problem effectively.
"The goal of this movement is to create relief in the nervous system and encourage the body to release stressors. It also serves as a reminder that, like waves, nothing in life is permanent. Be present in the moment. Rise like a wave, but also flow like water," wrote the fitness and yoga enthusiast, who is often seen performing difficult asanas and advocating for a healthy lifestyle. When she is not doing yoga, Shilpa is almost always sweating it out in the gym, which explains her age-defying physical attributes. The mother-of-two turned 49 in June this year.
In the spinal wave flow yoga asana, the actor was seen moving her spine like waves, sometimes arching it, and other times stretching and bending it like a bow. She did variations of the Cat and Cow Pose (Marjaryasana and Bitilasana) and the Child's Pose (Balasana) asanas while sitting on the yoga mat.
What Is Spinal Wave Flow Yoga?
Spinal wave flow yoga is a dynamic and free-flowing yoga style that focuses on stirring the natural flow of energy in the spine. It is usually said to combine elements of Hatha, Vinyasa, and Kundalini yoga to create a transformative experience. Its key principles include:
Spinal awareness: Developing awareness of the spine and its natural curves and allowing for more efficient flow for energy.
Wave-like movements: As mentioned earlier, it uses flowing, wave-like movements to awaken the spine and promote flexibility and strength.
Breath-synchronised movement: It helps one to coordinate their breath with movement, to enhance the flow of energy and promote relaxation.
Energy release: It promotes the release of tension and blockages in the spine, allowing for a free flow of energy and promoting overall well-being.
