The two mudras that can be performed for meditation are the Dhyan mudra and the Siddha mudra. They should be performed in the order of Dhyan, followed by Siddha mudra. It is best to perform these mudras early in the morning, and they are even better if done after the physical practice of yoga asanas.
Performing these mudras while meditating can bring fantastic results in the calmness of the mind, higher levels of productivity, better focus and concentration, and an improved sense of happiness overall. Practising meditation techniques using these mudras can be done anywhere. While you can do them even in the comfort of your home, you can experience elevated results in solitude. You can choose natural surroundings such as forests, mountainous areas, or even half-submerged water. This is known as Jal Magna Dhyan.
Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar, Yoga and Spiritual Leader and Founder of Akshar Yoga Kendraa, shares that practising these mudras with commitment and discipline will ensure success in all spheres of life.
Meditation mudra is a hand gesture frequently employed in yoga and meditation exercises. This mudra is said to aid in mental calmness, enhance focus, and enable a more profound state of meditation. In Sanskrit, "mudra" is a symbolic or ritualistic gesture, while "dhyan" signifies meditation.
To perform the dhyan mudra, follow these steps:
Keep your left palm below and place the right palm on top, with the tips of the thumbs touching
Keep other fingers (index, middle, ring, and little finger) straight but relaxed.
Rest your hands lightly on your lap or at the navel area
Connecting the thumbs creates a mild pressure that facilitates energy channelling, inner calm, and tranquillity.
A hand gesture known as the Siddha Mudra is used in yoga and meditation. It offers several advantages for mental and physical health. This mudra is linked to the Siddha lineage of yoga, which emphasises gaining control over the body and mind and spiritual enlightenment.
To perform the Siddha Mudra:
Keep your left palm below and place the right palm on top, with the thumbs tucked in
Keep all fingers (thumb, index, middle, ring, and little finger) straight but relaxed.
Rest your hands lightly on your lap or at the navel area
Close your eyes and focus on your breath or any mantra.
Siddha Mudra is an easy-to-do but effective technique that you can do regularly to support your mental, emotional, and spiritual health. As with any practice, to reap the full advantages of yoga, you must approach it with patience, consistency, and mindfulness.
