Overthinking can harm your mental health, as it can arrest you in a pool of obsessive thoughts, from which it is difficult to get out. It can lead to stress, which can affect your appetite and impact the quality of sleep. Overall, too much of it can cause problems in the way that you function every day, making it difficult for you to focus on work, meet friends and family, and socialise. As such, it is important to stop the flow of such redundant thoughts, and bring the mind to the present. Know that whatever is going to happen in the future can be dealt with accordingly, and it is not fair to ruin the present moment. If you are suffering from the problem of overthinking and want relief, start meditating and doing yoga.
Taking to Instagram, celebrity yoga and holistic wellness expert Anshuka Parwani -- who has trained many Bollywood stars like Kareena Kapoor and Alia Bhatt -- demonstrated some asanas for people who overthink and are always on edge, writing that incorporating yoga into your routine can have 'profound effects' on managing overthinking, promoting mental health and enhancing overall well-being. "Focusing on your breath and being mindful of your yoga practice helps to deal with feelings of anxiety, and keeps negative thoughts at bay."
The expert also said that a few minutes of practising these asanas every day can help you to 'calm the mind and boost your overall mood'. "While practising yoga, be conscious of your surroundings and your body's movements, as this will help to steer your mind away from wandering thoughts," she wrote. Take a look at the asanas.
In order to practise this asana, lie down on your back and then gently lift the lower body up, with your feet planted firmly on the yoga mat; make sure they are kept apart, and your pelvis is pointed at the sky. Join your hands by locking the fingers below the lifted part of the body. The weight of the body lies on the head and neck region, and your feet. Hold this pose for up to a minute.
Matsyasana With Block (Assisted Fish Pose)
In Matsyasana, you assume the form of a fish by folding your legs and lying down on the mat, with your arms stretched out over the head, which is slightly tilted upwards. In this case, you seek the support of a block to raise your spine. You may also fold your hands, as demonstrated by the expert in the video.
Bhujangasana (Cobra Pose)
Lie down on your stomach and with the help of your arms, lift your upper body to assume the shape of a cobra. Hold this position and breathe deeply.
