While it is important to be regular with yoga practice, there are a few asanas that must be performed daily, even with a busy schedule. These specific yoga poses can be beneficial for overall health and well-being. Adho Mukha Svanasana or Downward-Facing Dog Pose is among those yoga asanas that are extremely important. Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar, an author, columnist, and the founder of Akshar Yoga Kendraa says that it is one of the most recognised yoga postures.
To perform Adho Mukha Svanasana, the practitioner has to be on all four limbs, with their feet together and palms shoulder-distance apart. They must have their pelvis raised, effectively opening the muscles on the chest and the back. One look at the posture, and it will be evident that it actively involves the entire body -- from the head to the heels. Its benefits, therefore, extend to the whole body.
According to the yoga and spiritual leader, this pose offers a complete decompression of the spine. In the process, it helps bring alignment in the spinal column. It also simultaneously opens up the back, releasing stress from the muscles there, while gently building and preparing it for stronger practices.
Since it is a mild inversion, it can help channelise the flow of blood towards the brain. The yoga pose helps to stimulate the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, the expert says, adding that it also balances the left and right brain. It can enhance creativity and build confidence.
This powerful yoga pose is responsible for circulating blood towards the entire lower body, stretching and strengthening the calf muscles and hamstrings. It improves flexibility of the hamstrings, and also helps to make the knee joints strong.
In this posture, the weight of the entire body is evenly distributed between the upper and lower body. It strengthens the shoulder and wrist joints and prepares the upper body and spine for more advanced postures.

The posture also helps in building core awareness; it strengthens the hip joints. The challenge lies in holding the pose for a longer duration and balancing the body to bring awareness.
The posture can transfer energy towards the face. It can lead to a facial glow. It also pushes the energetic flow towards all organs and systems located in the face and head areas, thereby helping with detoxification, clearing blockages in the sinuses, and improving ear function.
According to the yoga expert, the posture puts gentle pressure on the abdominal muscles and gives a stretch to the central body. It decompresses the organs located in the central body, such as the stomach, liver, pancreas, kidneys, reproductive, and urinary organs. It can improve blood flow and functioning of all of these organs.
