While many women are aware of what happens after menopause, there is still a lot to understand about this transitory phase that might last for four and in rare cases up to 10 years.

Gradual Change

As per WHO, the menopausal transition can be gradual, usually beginning with changes in the menstrual cycle. Many times, these changes are subtle and not so obvious. It’s a good idea to understand the not-so-usual signs of perimenopause.

Hot flushes

You might feel your face, chest and extremities turning suddenly hot and sweaty. Some women might also experience periodic chills. These episodes of sweating might also be experienced at night.

Spotting between periods

Irregular periods are a common symptom of perimenopause. You might notice your periods getting too heavy or sometimes having blood clots. You might spot between periods and the gap between the two cycles might also shorten.

You might experience your worst premenstrual syndrome symptoms including extreme mood changes and disturbing abdominal discomfort.

You might notice changes in your peeing pattern. You might see yourself emptying your bladder often and some might experience loss of bladder control.

With decreased oestrogen, your mouth might become dry with reduced saliva secretion. This might result in an increased probability of experiencing tooth decay or gum bleeding.
