Sometimes the blood vessels carrying blood through the lungs can also get affected. It could be a blood clot that gets lodged in these arteries or the development of high pressure. Sometimes, fluid can leak out of the capillaries into the outer air spaces as seen in cases of congestive heart failure.

Cancer cells can grow anywhere, even in your lungs. As these tumours grow bigger in one’s lungs, they can restrict one’s capacity to breathe. Though smoking is a big cause of the disease, other lifestyle and genetic factors can also contribute.

Tuberculosis

It is an infectious disease that mostly affects the lungs. The disease is contagious and is caused by bacteria. Sometimes the bacteria remains latent in the body, showing no symptoms at all. For some, due to a weakened immune system, the bacteria can become active and cause serious illness. The disease is often characterized by a persistent cough that can at times be accompanied by blood.
