July 28th is observed as World Hepatitis Day to raise awareness of the different forms of hepatitis and how they are transmitted. Hepatitis is an inflammatory condition of the liver caused mostly by viral infections. In fact, about five different viruses can cause this condition. However, it can be non-infectious too. With Covid-19 on the rise, people with hepatitis are at a higher risk of infections. Dr Harshavardhan Rao B, Associate Professor Department, Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Amrita Institute of Medical Science (Amrita Hospital) explains why people suffering from hepatitis should be careful during the pandemic.
