Omicron XBB.1.5: While India was not over-dealing with the BF.7 variant, the XBB strain came inevitable. Another sublineage of this strain has put the US on edge XBB 1.5. The first case linked to this subvariant was detected in India on 30 December 2022. Many experts have noted the resistance of the XBB subvariants to antibodies from vaccination and infection as "alarming" at this stage. They have highlighted that most XBB subvariants are more effective at dodging protection from the omicron boosters than the BQ subvariants, which are also highly immune evasive.
