The debt of doctors who served people day and night during the coronavirus pandemic cannot be repaid. Today on the occasion of National Doctors' Day, let's take a bow at these warriors who fought for our lives and kept us safe during these tough times. Every year we celebrate this day in honour of noted doctor and former West Bengal chief minister Bidhan Chandra Roy, whose birth and death anniversaries fall on July 1. The day is also observed to thank doctors for their relentless service to humankind. In the last year, doctors have contributed and sacrificed immensely to save mankind. But, did anyone ever thought what mental trauma the doctors are going through? How challenging their lives have become? Various studies have confirmed that the doctors who fought the virus as the front-warriors were the most affected individuals in the last year both mentally and physically.
In honour of this noble profession, this Doctor's Day we are celebrating the efforts made by the doctors in creating a shield between coronavirus and humans and also how doctors' mental health was affected by the whole pandemic situation. Today, we have with us Dr. Sameer Malhotra, Director, Mental Health, Max hospitals to share with us his COVID-19 pandemic journey. Dr. Malhotra will also take us through the challenges doctors faced on a day-to-day basis during these tough times. He will also share the various mental health issues that the doctors faced and how they kept themselves going amid so many hurdles.
