Postpartum Depression: A mix of emotional, physical and behavioural changes after childbirth can be termed postpartum depression. It is a major form of depression that occurs after 4 weeks of delivery. Hormonal, social and psychological changes are responsible for postpartum depression. It is a change that a new mother experiences after having a baby. It can be treated with the help of medicines and with proper counselling. Estrogen and progesterone are those hormones which are responsible for maintaining pregnancy. After giving birth to a baby the level of those hormones falls which leads to hormonal fluctuation in the new mother causing mood swings, anxiety and depression.
