As a parent, especially an Indian parent, the number one concern when it comes to your child is nutrition. Whether your child is a picky eater or has low appetite, we are constantly worrying about how much a child eats. No wonder then, that we often give in and feed our children all kinds of junk like burger, pizza, sodas, sugar-laden foods and what not. In a Facebook Live video, Dr Tejender Kaur Sarna, nutrition and lifestyle consultant, discusses at length why it is important to pay attention to a child’s nutrition. She says that a child’s early nutrition lays the foundation for his future health. She doesn’t believe in depriving a child of anything, even chocolate and other treats, but definitely limiting the amount they consume.
Dr Sarna also shared many practical tips for parents who have a hard time feeding their kids. “If you have to feed your child, you have to, even if it means switching on the TV and distracting the child,” she says, “I know many parents will raise their eyebrows at this, but I see no harm in letting your child watch TV for 10-15 minutes so that they eat. Of course, you have to be careful about what you play on TV and be around the child at all times.” She says that lifestyle and wrong nutrition are the main factors to be blamed for childhood obesity, or even general obesity. She shares tips on how to watch what you eat, what a good diet means and why you need to physically stay active to stay healthy.
For parents, she has many handy tips on what to feed, what an ideal weight should be at what age and what childhood obesity actually means. She also has amazing tips for parents of picky eaters. So watch this video and do not forget to share it.
