Do you buy or choose products based on their ad campaigns or the models posing for the particular brand? Well, your are equal to be blamed for women objectification then. On November 18th, 2015, Madonna Badger, a prominent ad executive from New York, googled ‘women objectification’. The search results lead to this video.
In a world where concepts of feminism and women empowerment are given so much importance, objectifying women are something that still hasn’t stopped. In fact, it’s shocking to see so many popular corporate and fashion brands do this. The saddest thing is that some or most women in the industry don’t mind being seen as sex objects or being objectified for that matter. If corporates use your body to sell their products, it is because you are willing to be a part of this. This is what you should do if you are facing sexual harassment at work.
Women need to start respecting themselves and other women. Only then are you going to see the change. The video is very hard-hitting and definitely puts a lot of things in perspective. On one hand, we have women achieving so much and reaching great heights and on the other hand, we have women who are being used to sell brands. A lot you might argue that the photo shoots or the Instagram pictures are the creative team’s perspective and that it does not give any wrong message as such.
Being a popular brand or ad agency, the creative teams of these brands need to send out the right message. They cater to the audience that looks up to them and believes in them. Here’s Deepika Padukone’s message to all women out there. What is your opinion about this video? Let us know in the comments below.
