World Cancer Day is an annual event held on February 4th to raise cancer awareness and support cancer prevention, detection, and treatment. According to reports, cancer incidence in India climbed at an annual pace of 1.1-2 per cent on average from 2010 to 2019. According to the national cancer registry programme, 1,392,179 people in India were diagnosed with cancer in 2020. Breast, lung, mouth, cervix, uterus, and tongue cancer were the five most common types that affected the Indian population. Dr Tejinder Kataria, Chairperson, Radiation Oncology, Cancer Institute, Medanta Hospital, joined us today on World Cancer Day to talk about the disease and how to mitigate the risk.
