It is not always possible to meditate every day or practice yoga regularly to be able to stay calm and relaxed. In this video, Dr Nagarathna, Medical Director, Arogydhama VYASA, Bengaluru* demonstrates a simple breathing technique that will help you get rid of tension in a few minutes. Watch the video to learn about this method of dealing with stressful situations in day-to-day life.

Dr Nagarathna is a pioneer in the field of Yoga therapy, primarily using a holistic approach offered by yoga based lifestyle changes to maintain positive normal health. When I met Dr Nagarathna, she was in the midst of preparations for Prime Minister Modi's arrival to inaugurate the International Conference on Frontiers in Yoga Research and its Applications (INCOFYRA). She was calm and completely focussed as I shot the video and also dealt with students and other interruptions, without getting irritated or seeming preoccupied. She was completely unfazed by the hustle around her and did not even swat a fly that landed on her as she was facing the camera. You can even see the fly crawling on her sari! She lives in a simple home with minimal furniture and it is apparent to anyone who meets her even once that she not only leads a simple life but is also able to effortlessly make yoga and meditation a part of her lifestyle.

*Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana (S-VYASA) at Prashanti Kuteerum in Bengaluru is a research institute with a hospital and colleges in its campus where Dr Nagarathna and her brother Dr H R Nagendra, who is the President of VYASA, have pioneered research in integrating yoga with modern medicine.
