Unani
In Unani medicine, the effect of things around and the environment on health is identified. Therefore, along with treating diseases, Unani medicine is also quite effective in preventing diseases and constantly improving health. If put in simple language, Unani medicine also provides medications to increase the ability of the patient's immune system to treat illness and reduce symptoms.

What Is Unani Medicine?

Unani medicine is an ancient healing system. Before the birth of the allopathic treatment system, Unani medicines were quite prevalent worldwide. However, Unani medicine is still ranked as an essential cure in many parts. Unani medicine has also contributed a lot to the development of medical science.

Galen, The Greek Physician

Galen, a well-known Greek physician, believed that most diseases were caused by pollutants spread by the air, which is why they spread rapidly. In the current Unani system of medicine, the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical causes of the disease are explored. According to him, these pollutants reach inside the body through our respiratory system through the air. Therefore, according to classical Greek knowledge, medicines that strengthen the immune system are essential to prevent diseases and keep the body healthy.

History Of Unani Medicine

The basic knowledge of the Unani system of medicine was collected in Persia in 980 AD by Hakim ibn Sina. Hakin ibn Sina was also known as Avicenna. After this, Ajmal Khan, born in India in 1868, contributed to the development and expansion of Unani medicine in India and gave his identity to Unani medicine. The Unani system of medicine was born in the country of Greece. Hippocrates and his followers ran the Unani system of medicine. This treatment system is currently being used in India, Pakistan, Persia and many other countries. Not only this, in countries like South Africa and England, people have also turned to Unani medicine.

Principles Of The Unani System Of Medicine

The main principles related to health are evaluated in the Greek medicine system. These factors are known as "al-Umur al-Tabiyah", which is reasonably close to the person's health. Therefore, an Unani doctor must consider all these principles to determine a person's disease and its cause. Some of the central tenets of Unani medicine are as follows: Digestion

According to the Unani system of medicine, there are four different stages of the digestive process. This involves first the stomach's digestion and then the intestine's digestion. The food then turns into Chyme and Cal (Chyle), which goes into the liver. The main four stages of the digestive system are as follows:
  • Hepatic digestion: This cal is converted into four different touches of humer (rasikta), called blood, phlegm, yellow bile and black bile.
  • Vessel digestion: The tissues in it absorb nutrients with the help of their attractiveness power and retain them with holding power.
  • Tissue digestion: It is the process of digestion which works together with other forces to form tissue.
  • Expulsive digestion: The expulsive process is considered the end part of the digestive process, in which the remaining waste material is flushed out of the body.
According to Unani physicians, when any defect or function in any stage of the digestive system does not work correctly, various diseases begin to develop.
The State Of The Human Body
According to the Unani medicine, the state of the human body is classified under different headings, which include the following:
  • Disease: This is opposite to health, in which one or more functions of the body or organs stop working.
  • Health: In which all the functions and processes of the body work usually.
  • Neither health nor disease: This is the opposite of both above. Neither the person is ill nor completely healthy—for example, older adults or people who are recovering again after recovering from a disease.
Inner Strength
According to Greek medicine, there are usually three powers: mental (natural) strength, digestive power, and fertility. These three powers are as follows:
  • Digestive power: This is the second type of internal strength present in the liver and is active in every body tissue. Metabolism power is usually driven by two different powers, known as nutrient strength and incremental power.
  • Fertility: This is the third type of inner strength and is as essential as the above two powers. Reproductive power consists of two forces: productive power and creative power.
  • Mental strength is also called nervous or natural power, present in the brain. Mental strength is usually composed of retention power and motivational power.
As per the Unani medicine, the inner forces are an essential part of the body, with the help of which the balance of life is maintained. When any of these strengths are affected, the body cannot function normally, and some health problem develops.

Diagnosis Of Disease In Unani Medicine

The diagnostic procedure being used in the Unani system of medicine is not very different from the diagnostic technique of the modern medicine system. According to the Unani system of treatment, it is necessary to diagnose any disease to treat it, control its symptoms or prevent it from developing. A proper diagnosis also examines the patient's symptoms, temperament, and other factors. Like Ayurveda, the Unani system of medicine is also based on the principle of elements present in the human body. Therefore, the body is thoroughly examined while the Unani doctor is diagnosed with the disease. During this time, the patient is asked about his symptoms, temperament, feelings, and many other questions, which work exactly as the questions are asked during his current medical diagnosis. All the information on prognosis has been given in the books written by Unani medicine expert Hippocrates. With the help of these books, Unani practitioners get guidance related to identifying diseases, finding out the reason, and determining the proper treatment for them.

Treatment In The Unani System Of Medicine

Unani medicine is considered an incredible healing art and science. This treatment method looks at all body organs as separate groups and as a single organ. In Unani medicine, any disease is treated by balancing the body, mind and soul. Unani physicians are specialists in herbs who prescribe medication according to the health and condition of every person. According to the Unani system of medicine, nature is the best healer. Although there have been a lot of changes in the treatment process of this system at present, most of the treatments are still based on the information given in Hippocrates' books. In these books, mainly the following treatments are used to date:
  • Pneumonia: It is advisable to bathe the patient, especially before starting Unani medicines. In this, the patient is kept completely stable in water, which causes the phlegm to go away and other symptoms also decrease. However, according to Hippocrates' book, if you do not relax with this technique, medicines are given after a thorough physical examination.
  • Pain: In this, the pain is diagnosed, and then a wet cloth is put over the affected area. According to the patient's disease and physical condition, the water is kept hot or cold. If the patient does not experience relief, some blood is drawn from the affected part. According to Greek experts, blood is extracted until the colour of the blood appears bright red.
  • Chest diseases: It uses medicines made from barley soup, vinegar and honey and home remedies to remove phlegm. However, other Unani medicines are used if they do not relax.
