Vagus Nerve

Vagus nerve is the scientific term for 10th cranial nerve. It originates from the brain and extends its nerve fibres to various organs like pharynx, larynx, esophagus, heart, lungs and intestine (including colon). Vagus nerve is a part of autonomic nervous system which means it helps to regulate the body functions which are not in our voluntary control, like heart beat and digestion. Damage of vagus nerves affects the food pipe and vocal cord thus leads to difficulty in swallowing and speaking.
