The large intestine originates just from the end point of small intestine. It is broadly divided into cecum, colon and rectum. The main function of the large intestine is to absorb undigested food along with water and minerals. It can also store feces in rectum until it gets expelled through the anus. The large intestine is a breeding ground for several microorganisms that assist in the food digestion and absorption process. These microbes produce several types of vitamins that also get ingested in the large intestine.
