Inflammation

Inflammation is a response initiated by the body against an invading pathogen (bacteria or viruses). When microbes attack the body, some biological responses arise in order to remove these foreign agents. These responses are manifested as symptoms of inflammation. Some of the symptoms are: redness on tissues, swelling, pain and joint stiffness, flu, fatigue, loss of appetite, etc. Inflammation can be of two types: acute inflammation- when the body starts responding against the pathogen quickly and thus help to get a speedy eradication and chronic inflammation- elimination of pathogens does not occur easily and hence this kind of inflammatory response last for several months or even years. Some diseases where our body undergoes chronic inflammatory procedure are: cancer, rheumatoid arthritis and atheroschlerosis.
