The Indian Medical Association or the IMA is a national voluntary organization of allopathic doctors (conventional medicine) which looks after the interest of doctors as well as the community. Founded in 1928, it plays an important role in the nation’s healthcare and medical scenario and has over 2 lakh members with its main headquarters in Delhi and branches in 29 states and Union Territories.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) had last month demanded the Centre to constitute a high-power committee to verify the data of deceased doctors. It had also condemned the the governmnet for delaying disbursement of solatium for COVID-19 martyrs' families.
Indian Medical Association says, "NMC as such remains an anti poor, anti people and anti federal law which if allowed to be passed will have unforeseen consequences on not only health sector but also on the federal structure of the country."
Speaking at a national seminar on "Violence against doctors", hosted by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Baijal said: "Medical profession stands at the top in the list of serving humanity."
The NMC Bill proposes to increase the proportion of seats under control of management in private medical colleges from 15 percent to 60 percent, allows Ayush doctors to practice modern system of medicine after completing a 'bridging course.'
Why are doctors are against the NMC Bill?
"We called off our 12-hour strike as the government agreed to our demands and has sent it to the standing committee," IMA's senior member and ex-President K.K. Aggarwal told IANS.
Viability is defined as more than 28 weeks and more than 1 kg.
