Immunotherapy

This is a modernised method used for cancer treatment. The main purpose of immunotherapy is to boost up the body’s defense mechanism so that it can fight against cancer. It is also called biological therapy.

Even though it is not completely known how immunotherapy is beneficial in the management of cancer, it is believed that these drugs may work by impeding the growth of cancerous cells, thus preventing it from spreading to other parts of the body (metastasis), or in other way, these drugs may improve the functioning of the immune system in order to abolish the cancer cells. Several types of immunotherapies including monoclonal antibodies, non-specific immunotherapy and cancer vaccines are being used currently.
