Gastrointestinal cancer (GI cancer) is a type of cancer that arises in the parts of the digestive system including esophagus, gallbladder, liver, pancreas, stomach, small and large intestine, rectum and anus. This is a very common form of cancer and thousands of people (including men and women) become a sufferer of this menace every year. Experts believe that genetic mutation is supposedly linked with occurrence of such disease. They have also identified certain risk factors, like smoking, drinking alcohol, age, intake of fat-rich and ready-to-eat food, chronic pancreatitis and obesity enhance the probability of GI cancer. The symptoms of this disease depend on the affected areas of the digestive system but commonly abdominal pain, bloating, reduced appetite, weight loss and fatigue are conspicuous in almost all victims of GI cancer. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are generally recommended for the treatment of this disease.
