Dysentery is commonly known as bloody diarrhea. Such a condition sets off owing to the inflammation of the intestine. The inflammation occurs due to microbial and parasitic infection. Generally the infection spreads from food and water sources and is passed through the stool of infected persons. Sometimes infection may also spread from animals to humans. Dysentery usually continues for a week but the duration may vary depending on the health status of the individual and the type of infection. However, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medicines are usually recommended for the treatment of dysentery.
