Digestive Tract

The digestive tract originates from the esophagus and extends to the anus. It consists of group of organs that function together in order to breakdown food into energy and thus provide basic nutrients to the whole body. Digestive tract is otherwise known as alimentary canal or gut. It initiates from the mouth (where food gets masticated), then extends to the esophagus, the stomach, the small intestine, the large intestine, the rectum and the anus. Digestion process primarily takes place in the stomach and the small intestine. The large intestine is responsible for digestion and absorption of body fluids. After absorption of necessary nutrients, the undigested food is propelled to the rectum and expelled out by the anus.
