It occurs due to genetic alteration of a tumor tissue within putative epithelial cells. Different types of carcinomas include adenocarcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, anaplastic carcinoma and large-cell carcinoma. The body parts which are more prone to get affected with carcinomas include the lungs, pancreas, breasts, prostate gland and colon. The existence of carcinoma is diagnosed by tissue biopsy.
