Cancer vaccines are injectable medicines that boost the body’s immune system and help it to fight infections. There are two types of cancer vaccines available: prophylactic vaccines and therapeutic vaccines.

Prophylactic vaccines are similar to other conventional vaccines and help prevention of infectious diseases. Therapeutic vaccines are expected to act in various ways on cancerous tissues. They may delay or stop the cancer, reduce the size of the tumor, prevent its recurrence or abolish cancer cells that have not been destroyed with previous treatment.
