Blood Clotting

Blood clotting or coagulation of blood is life saving mechanism that prevents excessive bleeding from the body following a cut or an injury. Blood contains platelets and some proteins that actively participate in the clotting process.

Clotting can occur either in the veins or in the arteries and usually gets dissolved once the injury is healed. However, abnormal clotting may restrict the flow of blood to the heart causing deep vein thrombosis.┬а
