I am a 25-year old woman and I have heard that there is something called female condoms available these days. I wanted to know how they worked. Are they more pleasurable than male condoms? How does one put them on?
Female condoms have been around for the last 20 years but they ve never gained mainstream popularity like the male ones. Only 3 million female condoms are made each year compared to 1500 million males ones. But in the near future, the female condom is set to play an important role in preventing STDs and unwanted pregnancies because it will eliminate the need of being dependant on males for contraception. So let s find out more about them:
What s a female condom like?
The female condom is a thin sheath or bag-like pouch. It works on the same principle as the male one and creates a barrier by lining the entire length of the vagina. It serves the same purpose of preventing STDs and unwanted pregnancies.
What are its benefits?
In comparison to a male one, it s much thinner and instead of latex, this one is made of nitrile. The upside is that it s much more pleasurable than male ones because it s thin. It also has two rings which help improve stimulation. It also provides lubrication and makes sex less painful. It s also very handy during menstruation because it traps the blood. Also, since it s made out of nitrile, it s great for someone who s allergic to latex.
Disadvantages
There are some disadvantages of using a female condom. First and foremost, is the cost and while a pack of three male condoms cost Rs 25, female condoms cost Rs 100. Also, many users have complained that it s hard to put on and requires the woman to lie down, raise her legs and guide the condom into her vagina while using a lubricant. This is a definite downside because during moments of passion people don t really have time to read instructions!
Here are some tips for better usage:
