First week of pregnancy The first week of pregnancy is usually silent and passes off without any prominent signals. Your pregnancy begins on the day one of your menstrual cycle. Even though you have not conceived yet it is still considered as the start of your gestation period. Conception takes place approximately 14 days after the start of the cycle. To help your uterus house the fertilized cell after conception, the progesterone levels increases in your body which in turn make the endometrium, the inner lining of the uterus thicker in order to help implant the fertilized egg. While there aren’t any physical changes you might notice some common symptoms of pregnancy.

The most common symptoms would be nausea and constipation. The other symptoms might be of extreme fatigue, having tender breasts and facing bouts of mood swings. Though these symptoms vary from person to person, it gets more prominent only a little after the second week of pregnancy when the fertilization and implantation process has taken place.

Development of your baby

In actual technical terms your baby isn’t formed yet. But since you are in your fertile period, it is still considered as a small single cell called the egg, present in one of your ovaries, unaware of what awaits it once it is released from the ovary. Once the fertilization process takes place and the egg implants itself on the wall of the uterus, the cell division happens to help it grow from a fertilized cell to a full term baby.
