Walking, squatting and other things that DID NOT help me have a vaginal (natural) delivery

I did all of these things but still did not have a vaginal delivery.

You know what you get freely when you are pregnant? No, not the foods that you crave. Or rest when you need it. The topmost thing you receive is advice. Free advice. Mostly useless advice. But advice, nonetheless. One of the popular subject of advice is, how to ensure you have a vaginal, also called 'normal' or 'natural', delivery. Many women willingly don't want to have a c-section. However, there's pretty little that you can do to guarantee a vaginal delivery. A vaginal delivery depends on your body, the baby's position in your uterus and whether the baby's head is engaged in your pelvis. Anyway, there are many factors that help you have a vaginal delivery, but one of these common myths are definitely not.

  • Walking: I have always been a physically active person, and even during pregnancy, I used to walk a lot. At least 300 mts. a day. And it did not help. So all the aunties who egg on pregnant girls to keep walking -- just CHILL!
  • Taking stairs: So here's the thing, my loo is downstairs. And as you know, the bladder works overtime when pregnant and I had to use the stairs multiple times during the night, and yet I had a c-section. Guess what? Climbing the stairs does not help.
  • Dancing: You see all the women, in all their pregnancy glory, dancing away. They mostly do it to expedite labour and get the baby moving. But a lot of people also think that being agile and dancing during the pregnancy helps the muscles be flexible, that eases a vaginal delivery. Well, take it from me, it does not.
  • Sitting on floor: I was told that sitting on the floor helps relax the pelvis, which guarantees a vaginal delivery. Did not work for me. I have not met anyone for who it worked. I rest my case.
  • Not gaining too much weight during pregnancy: Are you telling me thin women don't have c-sections? Or is it just a ploy to not let me eat things I crave? Very sly!
  • Yoga: I practiced yoga throughout my pregnancy. Right till the day I delivered. But there's not much yoga can do to change the position of a breech baby.

Remember, at the end of the day, you and your caregiver needs to do what is best for you and the baby. Do not focus on how you deliver the baby, but more on a healthy pregnancy and a happy baby.
