Sex query: Does the vagina become loose after a natural delivery?

Here's what you need to know about a loose vagina post delivery.

I am a 25-year-old woman and my husband and I are expecting our first child. I have decided to go for a typical vaginal delivery instead of a C-section. However, I am worried that it could affect my sex life as I have been told by my friends that the vagina becomes very loose after a normal delivery. Is this true? And if yes, what can I do to make my vaginal muscles tight again?

This query was answered by Dr Prakash Kothari, Head of the Department of Sexual Medicine at KEM Hospital, Mumbai.

Yes, it is true that the vagina can be loose or lax after a natural delivery. It is normal for the vaginal opening to become bigger than usual or stretched out as the pelvic floor muscles tend to lose their tone post delivery. However, there is no reason to get overly worried or paranoid as kegel exercises help in both, toning and tightening the muscles around the vaginal opening and urethra. Here are reasons why every woman should do kegel exercises post pregnancy.
