Eating right plays a key role in the growth and development of both, the mother and the child in the womb. While some women tend to eat less due to nausea and morning sickness, others increase their intake, gaining weight. And excess weight gain during pregnancy further puts you at risk of gestational diabetes, C-section during delivery and preeclampsia. Hence, it is important to keep a tab on your diet. There is a steady growth and development during the 270 days of pregnancy. Hence, the intake of calories should steadily increase, which must comprise mostly of fresh fruits and vegetables. As the bowel movement is slow and the nutrient requirement is high as the foetus grows, it is advised to eat frequently. As the nutrients are passed from the maternal blood through the placenta to the developing fetus, ensure that the nutrients present in the food are absorbed. Also, eating at a frequent interval causes a gradual release of glucose in the body and maintains your blood glucose, thereby preventing from fatigue and lethargy.   • Avoid eating large meals during the day as it might further lead to digestive complications.
  • Eat a heavy breakfast but lunch and dinner should be light. Include more of fibre-rich foods to avoid constipation and stay hydrated by drinking at least 10 -12 glasses of water and fluids.
  • If the caloric intake is 2000 calories per day, during pregnancy it increase to 2200 2300 calories and not more than that. So plan wisely and divide your daily caloric intake accordingly into small meals. Here are 10 diet dos and don ts every pregnant woman should follow.

Although during the first few months of pregnancy most people tend to eat less, during the second and third trimester most people experience hunger pangs.
