Sipping coffee throughout the day during pregnancy can make you feel refreshed and give your systems a jolt, but it does a lot of harm to your growing baby inside. Continuous intake of caffeine makes the blood vessels of your body become narrow that restricts the blood flow to the baby. Also certain compounds present in coffee hinder the absorption of iron that is vital for the growth and development of your baby. For the same reason stay away from products that are loaded with caffeine like soft drinks, iced tea, diet colas, energy drinks and also your regular tea. The recommended dose of caffeine for pregnant women is 150 mg per day. That means if you really can’t do without your favorite drink, be it coffee, tea or your regular cola limit your intake. But experts say that it still isn’t a good practice and could harm you adversely. For instance, having just two cups of coffee throughout the day regularly can also increase your risk of miscarriage.

So it is wise to keep away from products that are high on caffeine and find better alternatives, like a glass of warm water with a dash of lemon and honey or a glass of warm milk with a pinch of turmeric. If you still feel caffeine calling out to you, have your fill once in a while to satisfy your craving. Also read about the other beverages that you should be drinking during your pregnancy.
