Wearing your favorite pair of stilettos during the first trimester of your pregnancy is still pretty comfortable. But as you progress in your pregnancy know that it's a good idea to give fashion a miss in favour of safety and comfort.
During your second trimester the hormone relaxin that is released in the body makes the joints and the ligaments become flexible and supple. This is a normal phenomenon that prepares you for a smooth labour and birth. This hormone also makes the joints of the pelvic, hip and back shift a bit from their normal alignment. Your belly also starts to bulge out and wearing heels can put undue strain on the hips and back.
When you reach your third trimester your belly protrudes out the most and also your center of gravity shifts, wearing heels now can give rise to improper posture thus aggravating pain in the back and hips. It can also become increasingly difficult for you to balance in the heels during the later stages of pregnancy. It's best to opt for flats to avoid accidents and to ensure safety during your pregnancy.
