Until the time you discover the two pink lines on your home pregnancy test kit, being careless about diet and water intake is fine. We know that this happens with everyone, slouched at the desk with the pressure of deadlines haunting us going without food and water for long hours becomes a norm. Homemakers are not too far away, they too tend to be careless about their health in so many ways. But if you are an expectant mother then this careless attitude has to be changed. Of course, hormones can make you averse to certain foods and so you might want to drop some healthy foods off your list. But when it comes to drinking water nothing should stop you from having at least two to three litres of water every day. Here is why drinking water during pregnancy is crucial.

Well, this is easier said than done. Not every woman can call for that stern self-discipline and sip on a glass of water with ease and complete her daily water requirement. But then this would mean being dehydrated, which isn t good either for the mother or the baby. There are studies which state that during pregnancy and while breastfeeding a mother needs to up her water intake as water is needed to make the amniotic fluid that surrounds the baby, support the increase in blood plasma volume and produce breast milk.

Dehydration for an expectant mother would mean inviting problems like constipation, headache, dizziness, nausea and also setting oneself up for a UTI. So, it only makes sense to drink adequate amounts of water during pregnancy. But if you aren t able drinking two to three litres of water throughout the day just because plain water doesn t excite you and you only reach out for the glass when thirsty, then try this interesting way to increase your water intake naturally flavoured water or infused water. All you need is some natural ingredients like cucumber, mint and lemon. Here is how to make it. It this way you will be able to drink water as it is now flavoured and the taste will definitely help you drink at least eight glasses of it regularly.
