Jennifer Lawrence Shares Her struggles With Postpartum Anxiety: ' I Felt Like I Was Failing At Everything'

Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence has always been upfront about various things. In a recent interview, she has authentically spoken about something that many mothers can relate to easily and that is postpartum anxiety that happens after giving birth. She became mother in 2022 and shared the unfiltered experience of being a mother, that it is not the good world that seems on the social media platforms, but instead, she went through a lot of fear, self out and pressure to be a perfect mother.

In this video, Jennifer Lawrence discusses the topic of motherhood and self-doubt. Responding to her first child with her husband Cooke Maroney, Lawrence stated that she was caught off guard because of how strong her emotions turned out to be during the weeks and months after giving birth to her first. She said she believed she was doing it all wrong, "Whatever I attempted to do, I did not feel good enough".

Jennifer On Hidden Struggles Of Motherhood

As someone who has years of living under the scrutiny of the public,Jennifer Lawrence said that motherhood had exposed a different vulnerability even a red carpet and a speech at the Oscars could not prepare her. She had told about panic attacks, restless nights and much fear that she was not doing right with her baby , "It is as though you love this little one more than anything there is, and that love scares you. You begin doubting everything you do". Another point that Lawrence brought out was the inability to discuss such feelings even with people who were very close to you and how every mom is being told as if it is the best time of the life and When someone are not like that, then one begins to think that they are bad. Her words are representative of many new mothers who face postpartum mental health issues but do not feel comfortable speaking about them.

Through open speech, the actress is hopeful that she will be able to contribute towards the eradication of postpartum struggles stigma. She said that she could make one new mom feel less alone, which is worth it. This is because of the symptoms that accompany Postpartum Anxiety.Whereaspostpartum depressionshave gained popularity over the past years, little has been said about postpartum anxiety, yet it is the factor that affects the life of many women after giving birth. Researchers describe it as a state whereby new mothers are distinguished by too much worry, fear or nervousness that could interfere with normal life and bonding with the baby.

Some of the common postpartum anxiety symptoms include:

  • Continuous worrying or uncontrollable worrying.
  • Even in the company of the sleeping baby, he or she is nervous or sleepless.
  • Competing or feeling like one has to be on his or her toes all the time.
  • Physical symptoms: Increased heartbeat, nausea or dizziness.
  • This is in fear that something will happen to the baby.

Contrary to the so called baby blues that tend to disappear in several weeks after giving birth, postpartum anxiety may last longer and may need professional help. Therapy, medication, and support groups are the tools of treatment that can help overcome the condition, however most women, including Lawrence, are afraid to reach out to help because of the feeling of guilt or stigma.

Lawrence claims that as she goes about her acting business with motherhood, she has learned to be nicer with herself. I see that there is no ideal way of doing this, she thought. It is not about the transitional process but about actually being there, loving your baby and forgiving yourself. Her experience was a very strong message that postpartum anxiety is a reality, and it is not something to be afraid of, and that all mothers deserve love, care, and understanding.
