I'm seven weeks pregnant. A lot of mothers on a social media group advised me to opt for organic food products. Is it necessary? Please tell me what to do?
Since you're going to have to start eating wisely from now on, it's important to make the right decisions about your diet. Consult your gynaecologist or dietician once to advise you on what you should eat and what you should avoid. Dr Ragini Agrawal, a gynaecologist and director of W Hospital, Delhi, tells you how you can benefit from organic food during pregnancy.
Organic foods are free of chemicals and other preservatives, making it a healthier choice. Though, because they do not contain any preservatives, you can't stock them and eat later. You will have to finish it in a certain amount of time as specified on the pack. So don't buy it in advance.
No pesticides
Pesticides in foods can affect your hormonal and endocrinal system. It also affects your growing foetus. Most of the foods, including fruits and vegetables, contain pesticides. Always look for the '100% organic' label on the food products and make sure you check the food labels correctly.
