According to Dr Avantika Vaze (Parab), fertility consultant at Nova IVF Fertility, Vashi, fertility enhancing surgery is a 'boon' for women who wish to improve their fertility and become pregnant. "Fibroids, endometriosis, cysts, and other reproductive health issues take a toll on a woman's fertility. Fortunately, due to cutting-edge technology, it is possible to correct infertility issues in women via fertility-enhancing surgeries," she says.
The doctor adds that a surgery will be recommended based on the patient's health problem, which is causing obstruction in her journey of pregnancy. "The procedures involved are hysteroscopy -- a common treatment for fibroids, polyps, and adhesions -- and laparoscopy for endometriosis, cysts, tubal blockages, and hydrosalpinges (infectious fluid within fallopian tube)."
Should a fertility expert recommend it, women must undergo these surgeries without delay, as they can improve the chances of conception.

Laparoscopy: This procedure can help with the diagnosis and treatment of fibroids, tubal issues, endometriosis, adhesions, etc. Dr Avantika says it is a minimally-invasive surgery wherein a thin tube is inserted into a woman's abdomen via a small incision to diagnose and treat the pathological conditions. It is completely safe.
Hysteroscopy: During this procedure, the uterine cavity and the lining of the uterus (endometrium) are assessed. This procedure helps in the assessment of cervical pathologies, and is done to deal with uterine adhesions, fibroids, polyps, or growths that can be detected and addressed. It will not cause any complications. Some congenital abnormalities in the uterus can also be diagnosed by hysteroscopy, like uterine septum or unicornuate uterus, the doctor explains, adding that uterine septum can increase the risk of miscarriage, and also cause infertility. "This septum can be removed during hysteroscopy to give a near-normal uterine cavity."
According to the expert, fertility enhancement surgeries have emerged as 'promising' options for women looking to improve their reproductive health outcome. "By undergoing the recommended fertility enhancement surgeries, women can experience improved fertility rates and an overall enhancement of their reproductive well-being."
