You know that exercising regularly has many positive effects on the physical dispositions and mood of the mother and development of the baby. However, you should always obtain clearance from your doctor before working out. And once you are good to go, you should perform exercises like kegel exercises. Here's an exercise guide for first, second and third trimester of pregnancy.

According to Sonali Shivlani pregnancy, lactation and child nutrition counselor, the downward dog calf stretch (a type of kegel exercise) can be of great help. There can be increased pressure in the pelvis and groin area during pregnancy. This exercise will help relieve pressure and provide relief. It will also provide relief from sciatica (lower back) pain. These 7 prenatal yoga poses will also help ease your pregnancy pains.

Here s how you can perform the exercise

  • Sit on a non-slip yoga mat and position yourself on hands and knees. Make sure that your hands are below the shoulders and your knees are hip-width apart. Keep your spine erect and your toes firmly on the mat.

Kegel-1-THS

  • Gently raise your knees off the mat and slowly touch your heels to the floor.

Kegel-2-THS

  • Hold this position for 4-5 breaths and return to the starting position. Repeat the steps five times.
