Hormones are to blame for all the physiological and psychological changes that happen during pregnancy. They don t spare a woman s breasts too. A surge in the hormone levels especially estrogen and progesterone make the areolas and nipples appear darker, which is also an early symptom of pregnancy. Here are a few helpful tips to combat pregnancy problems.

During the later stages of pregnancy, this becomes more obvious and visible. This is also an indication that the body is preparing for the challenges post birth and gearing up for breastfeeding. Apart from this, a few weeks prior to labour, the nipples might also appear larger and darker.

Smalls bumps known as Montgomery s tubercles might also appear on the areola during the early stages of pregnancy. These are sebaceous glands that secrete oils to keep bacteria away from the surface to counter infections. These bumps are often an early clue of a first pregnancy. Here are six breast changes that happen during pregnancy which you should know about.

However, every woman faces different types of breast changes. Some might not even see this symptom and complain about sore or leaky breasts. In case one notices darkening of the areola soon after missing a period, it is advisable to do a pregnancy test to confirm the status.
