Yoga mats are extremely important in order to make the most out of yoga practice. A yoga mat is used to secure your feet and palm's grip while working out. The mat should be comfortable, provide stability and should also feel good on your bare feet. However, there are a number of things lying around you which can be repurposed and turned into a mat. Basically, use your imagination and create your own comfortable yoga mat with other alternatives.
For example, if you are staying in a hotel a long throw rug can be perfect as a do-it-yourself yoga mat. You can roll it up and take anywhere you want to. Long throw rug turns into a nice soft mat when your yoga session is on indoor carpeting.
If you are practising yoga at home you can use your favourite beach towel as a yoga mat. It works great for an indoor or outdoor session. But to avoid any kind of injury it is always better to place a non-slip fabric underneath.
Even if you want you can also make a yoga mat with your old blanket. Fold it in half or in thirds for a manageable size or cut it down. A blanket turned into a yoga mat is great for practising yoga outdoors as well as indoors on carpet.
Quilted yoga mat can be the perfect option for you. For an outdoor session in the grass, an old quilt can be a great yoga mat. However, you can easily create a quilted yoga mat with the thickness you desire if you are a pro at handling a sewing machine.
