Cooking in poorly ventilated kitchens

Fine particulate matter and harmful gases are emitted while cooking at high heat without adequate ventilation. Exposure to indoor cooking smoke has been associated with an increased risk of lung cancer particularly among women in the long run. Exposure can be substantially lowered by using exhaust chimney or by improving kitchen ventilation.

Use strong chemical cleaners on a daily basis

Often using strong cleaning sprays, air fresheners, solvent based products and cleaning sprays releases volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at your indoor space. Experts warn that exposure to some VOCs over long periods of time can damage the respiratory system which is why they suggest using milder products and be sure to provide adequate ventilation if chemical cleaning is necessary.

Dismissing dampness and mould

Lung cancer is not directly caused by persistent damp walls and mould growth but it can lead to chronic inflammation, aggravate lung diseases and negatively affect lung health. Healthcare professionals recommend repairing water leaks quickly and controlling humidity in the home to improve air quality.
