Breastfeeding after childbirth is considered to be extremely important, even though many mothers are not able to do it, because they face problems in producing sufficient milk owing to lifestyle factors, certain health conditions, and medications. The breast milk that is fed to the baby strengthens them from within and boosts their immunity. As such, Dr Jinal Patel, a dietitian at Zynova Shalby Hospital says one must incorporate certain foods in their diet that can help increase their milk supply.

Breast Milk For Newborn Babies

According to the dietitian, newborn babies need to feed after every one or two hours; it can be tiring for mothers. They are advised to eat a variety of dishes rich in essential nutrients to regain strength. "Not producing enough milk is a serious issue that needs to be addressed promptly. A lactation expert may suggest some lifestyle adjustments and dietary changes to encourage milk supply," says Dr Patel. Sesame Seeds (til)

These seeds are packed with goodness of essential nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and calcium. They are considered to be ideal for breast milk induction. Sesame seeds are equally beneficial for the mother and her baby. In fact, Indian mothers are traditionally fed 'til ke ladoo' made of jaggery for speedy postpartum recovery and increased milk supply.

Breastfeeding mothers are advised to eat garlic to improve their milk supply. You can eat it raw or add it to numerous dishes like soups, stew, porridge, dal, and khichdi. The dietitian warns that you must not go overboard with its consumption as the baby may dislike the strong smell of garlic in the breast milk.
