Cosmetic surgeries

Cosmetic surgeries are typically considered to be elective procedures. There, however, are some situations where they may be necessary, such as for a person who is suffering from a chronic condition and is in dire need of relief. Sometimes, these surgeries can correct congenital anomalies like cleft lip or palate, or ear deformities. They may also help a person with severe burns or scars. It is important to keep in mind that each individual's circumstances are unique, and the decision to undergo cosmetic surgery must be made after careful consideration and consultation with a qualified healthcare professional.

Cosmetic surgery for body

Dr Siddharth Prakash, a cosmetic and plastic surgeon, Lilavati Hospital lists seven procedures that people usually undergo. According to him, when a cosmetic surgery is done by a qualified plastic surgeon in a good hospital, the results are 'predictable, safe and fulfilling'. Scroll down to find out more.

Gynecomastia surgery

Gynecomastia refers to male breast enlargement that occurs due to a hormonal imbalance, heredity, or obesity. The doctor explains that male breast reduction surgery involves liposuction of the excess fatty deposits over the front and sides of the chest. It is done using tiny keyholes hidden in the 'axillary area'; it needs no cuts or stitches.

Breast augmentation

This surgery increases the size of your breasts, says Dr Prakash. The enlargement is usually done with silicone implants. Breast augmentation can help restore volume lost after pregnancy, improving the shape of the breasts, and correcting sagging breasts to some extent.

Breast lift

This surgery is done to lift the breasts and improve their shape. Sometimes, age, pregnancy, and weight fluctuations can affect the size and shape of breasts. They may become loose and saggy, affecting a person's self-image. Breast lift can be combined with breast reduction or enlargement surgery, as needed.

Reduction mammaplasty

It is a type of surgery to reduce the size of the breast. Heavy breasts cause back pain, deep marks on the skin, and even fungal infections, says the doctor. Breast reduction can remove extra fat and glands. It makes the size of the breast proportionate to the overall figure.

Buttock enlargement

It is a surgery done to improve the appearance of the buttocks. The size, shape, and contour of this area are enhanced to make them look more aesthetically pleasing. "Buttock augmentation by autologous fat transfer is the more popular technique, and is also known as Brazilian butt lift or BBL surgery," the doctor states.

Abdominoplasty or tummy tuck

It removes excess skin and fat from the belly to make it flat and smooth. Abdominoplasty can also strengthen the loose muscles, improving a person's core strength. Tummy tuck surgery will remove the excess, loose, or hanging skin.

Liposuction surgery

It removes unwanted fat from the body to reshape areas that have stubborn fat. The doctor states that liposuction is 'extremely safe' and done through keyholes. There are no stitches and scars involved, and the recovery is quick.
