Receding Hairline

While receding hairline is a problem often associated with men, many women experience it, too. It is not an age-related issue, unlike what most people believe. Receding hairline can leave a patch, and cause some amount of embarrassment. In many cases, tight hairstyles in the form of ponytails and buns can pull the hair back sharply and cause the front hairline to recede. In some men, as they age, hair growth becomes slow and the hair follicles stop producing new hair, leading to thinning and loss. In women, however, it is more complex than that.

Hormones

In an Instagram post, the clinical cosmetologist explains that dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which is a derivative of the male hormone testosterone, can cause hair follicles to 'shrink', leading to hair loss. Women must get their hormone levels tested from time-to-time. Also Read - Follow This Checklist To Arrest Thyroid-Induced Hair Loss

Medical Conditions

As mentioned earlier, hormonal testing is required in women, as certain conditions like thyroid disorders, autoimmune diseases, and scalp infections can contribute to hair loss and cause the hairline to recede, the doctor states.

Medications

The effect of medications cannot be ignored. Dr Sawant says that some medications for cancer, arthritis, depression, heart problems, and high blood pressure can cause hair loss -- it is nothing but a simple side effect. When one consumes a poor diet, is stressed, does not get proper sleep and rest and night, and also smokes, they end up affecting their overall health, and also the health of their hair. Dietary deficiency, coupled with stress and lack of sleep can contribute heavily towards loss of hair.
