Myth: Teeth-whitening Products Are As Good As Dental Treatment

Fact: Not only are the teeth whitening products not as effective as dental treatment, studies have shown that these products could even harm your teeth. Sodium chlorite, found in the over-the-counter teeth-whitening products, can reduce the hardness of teeth and could cause surface abrasion in teeth. Myth: You Can Never Drink Wine After Teeth-whitening Procedure

Fact: While it is adviced to avoid wine or coffee after the teeth whitening procedure to avoid stains in the open pores, it is not a permananet order. After a few days, you can go back to drinking wine or coffee.

Myth: Teeth-whitening Procedure Guarantees Whiteness

Fact: The affectiveness of the product depends on the patient and the type of stains he/she has on the teeth. Thickness of the enamel, tooth structure and age of the patient could also cause problems in getting white and shinning teeth. Before you go for the procedure, it is adviced to sit and discuss your teeth condition with the doctor.

Myth: Teeth-whitening Makes Teeth Weak

Fact: While there are some side-effects of teeth-whitening procedure like sensitivity and gum irritation, these side-effects don’t always show up. If the procedure is carried by a licensed professional dental health provider then the chances of these side-effects come down significantly. Ask your doctor to use a whitening gel activated by diode lasers.
