Our heart has a natural pacemaker called the sinoatrial node or the SA node which regulates the hearts rhythm and pace of the heartbeat by sending electrical signals. But sometimes, this might not function properly. This causes heart rhythm problems known as sick sinus syndrome or SSS.

Our heart has a normal rhythm which is maintained by all the other organs of the body. But sometimes, SSS might cause the heart to beat too slowly. Due to Sinus bradycardia, the heart might beat fewer than 60 beats per minute, which is very less.

Sometimes our heart beats very fast and sometimes it beats very slow. This alteration keeps happening along with a long pause between the wo heartbeats. This is caused by the Tachycardia-bradycardia (tachy-brady) syndrome.

Due to this type of SSS condition, the SA node can actually temporarily block the transmission of signals. This leads to skipped heartbeats and it is called Sinus arrest or pause.

The SA nodes are supposed to send their signals to the two chambers of the heart (atria) but the Sinoatrial block can block them both from reaching the chambers. This can lead to an imbalance in the hearts rhythm.
