Apricots: Eating apricots can increase prolactin which in turn enhances the production of breast milk. Fresh apricots are the best but if you have to go for the canned ones look for apricots packed in natural juices instead of sugary syrup.
Dates: Dates are rich in iron and calcium that helps increase the breast milk production. Make it a point to eat half cup of dried dates to meet your daily serving requirements.
Kale: When you are breastfeeding your body needs extra calories to make up for what you are giving your baby. Kale contains high levels of calcium, iron vitamin A and K and folate. Kale chips can be a fun and easy way to munch on green vegetables between meals.
Gourd family vegetables: Vegetables from the gourd family like bottle gourd, bitter gourd, apple gourd (tinda) and sponge gourd (tori) aids lactation postpartum. Apart from this, these vegetables are easy to digest and have high nutritional value.
Fenugreek: Fenugreek or methi is rich in iron and calcium which aids in increasing the production of breast milk in lactating mothers. They also have galactagogues, which help in breast milk production. You can either have methi seeds sprinkled on your vegetables or soak methi seeds overnight in a glass of water and drink it early in the morning.
With festivals around the corner, Ghee is all set to be brought off the shelves and used in prasad's, sweets and even meals. Of course, everyone knows the nutrient values of ghee in food and prasad and its purity, but people seldom know that Ghee not only adds value to the food but also has other health advantages.
