Breastfeeding is tiring, period. This is why mothers yearn for support and care. They expect a lot from their partners. But usually, fathers don't know what to do to pep up the nursing mother. Make it an intimate experience: Agreed, you cannot be with the mother every single time she feeds. But if you can create an intimate experience as depicted in this picture it would do a lot to relieve her stresses. Also, touch has healing powers. Skin-to-skin contact between mother, father and child promotes secretion of oxytocin and helps to bond better and calm the nerves.
Just hold her close: Sometimes you don't have to do much, just holding her close and a peck on the cheek or the forehead during breastfeeding is enough to make her feel loved.
Talk to her: Sometimes lending a patient ear and doling out words of appreciation is all that she needs. Just talking to her will help her combat postpartum issues and get going with breastfeeding. So, fathers don't abandon the mother and baby during this phase. Sit and talk, tell her she is awesome and her smile will melt away the baby blues.
A kiss, a peck: A passionate kiss during breastfeeding will not just boost her morale but make her feel wanted and loved: two things that go a long way when a mother is fighting baby blues or postpartum depression. Look at the way the father is holding the baby's head and supporting the mother while expressing his love. Just gold!
Be with her while on the move: We all know that it isn't easy to breastfeed while on the go. So a peck from the father just helps to calm the mother and carry on with her travel and nursing effortlessly.
Sitting by her side: Sigh! Breastfeeding twins? It is a challenge in itself. If the father can just sit for a while and help to hold one baby while the mother holds the other, it is a support like no other. What more can a mother of twins ask more from her partner?
