Whenever we hear the term superhero, most of us get the picture of our fathers. Isn’t it? He is someone you look up to, no matter how trail you grow. He becomes your story teller, best friend, nanny, and what not. Just like mothers, his contribution and significance in your life cannot be explained in words. Father’s tireless efforts to bring you up, his selfless love, and indomitable spirit, definitely need honour. Father’s Day celebration goes back to 5th July 1908. On this day, Grace Golden Clayton, daughter of a war veteran put efforts in order to celebrate the sacrifice of her father and other fathers who died in the Monongah Mining Disaster in December 1907. However, her effort was disbanded later. It was actually in the year 1910, when a girl named Sonora Smart Dodd gave the idea of celebrating Father’s Day after listening about Mother’s Day celebration at the Central Methodist Episcopal Church. Later in the year 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson announced third Sunday of June as the official Father’s Day. Six year later in 1972, the day was proclaimed as a national holiday. Father’s Day aims at realizing and honouring the contribution of fathers in the society. It is not just a day to recognize and celebrate your own father’s efforts and initiatives, but you can honour any fatherly figure in your life.
